Cannes becomes Europe's first city to deploy a decentralized, eco-friendly cloud for AI and sovereign data storage

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, David Lisnard, Mayor of Cannes and President of the Cannes Lérins Agglomeration, and David Gurlé, founder of Hivenet and PoliCloud, introduced a groundbreaking technology at the World Artificial Intelligence Cannes Festival (WAICF). This secure, sovereign, and environmentally friendly cloud—provided by the French startup PoliCloud—is the first of its kind in Europe. With its adoption, the Agglomération Cannes Lérins takes a leading role in the digital and AI revolution.

About David Gurlé

David Gurlé was born in Istanbul, Turkiye, the son of a French diplomat and a British BBC journalist. At 14, he moved to Cannes, where he attended Lycée Carnot before earning a Master of Telecommunications and Computer Science from ESIGETEL. His career includes roles at France Telecom, ETSI, VocalTec, and a significant period at Microsoft where he collaborated with Bill Gates. He also played key roles in Skype and Thomson Reuters. In 2014, he founded Symphony Communication Services. In 2022, he launched Hivenet, headquartered in Cannes-La Bocca.
